Countries 'Eyeing' Tangier

Every country bordering the Mediterranean or trading across the ‘Middle Sea’ was interested in occupying Tangier in order to control the shipping routes. European Powers were afraid of other countries expanding their influence. The Ottomans had spent many years pushing back the Europeans and increasing their control over the North African countries of the Maghreb.
